Aftertone

Terms of sale and licence

Last updated: 14 October 2026

These terms cover buying and using Aftertone, the photo-effects app made by rapolas.studio ("we", "us"). They're written to be read. If something is unclear, email support@tryaftertone.com.

Who sells it

Aftertone is sold through Polar, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record: Polar processes your payment, charges any sales tax or VAT, and issues your receipt. Polar's buyer terms apply to the payment itself. We make the software, support it, and grant the licence below.

What you get

The licence

The licence check

The app checks your key with Polar when you enter it and again every few days, so a refunded key stops working. Without an internet connection it keeps working for 30 days after its last successful check. The check sends your licence key and a device name (for example "Safari on macOS"); your photos are never sent anywhere. See the privacy policy.

14-day money-back guarantee

Within 14 days of purchase you can ask for a full refund for any reason by emailing support@tryaftertone.com. You don't need to give a reason. The refund goes back to your original payment method through Polar, and your licence key stops working. The guarantee is limited to one refund per customer, and we may decline it where there is clear evidence of abuse, such as repeated purchase-and-refund.

Not sure yet? The free demo runs in your browser with no signup, so you can check that Aftertone works on your computer before buying.

Right of withdrawal (EU, EEA, UK and similar)

Aftertone is digital content supplied straight away. At checkout you ask for immediate access and acknowledge that your statutory 14-day right of withdrawal ends once your licence key is delivered; your confirmation email repeats this. The money-back guarantee above applies regardless.

Your statutory rights

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer law, including your rights if Aftertone is faulty or not as described: a fix, a price reduction or a refund, as the law provides, at any time those rights apply, not only within 14 days. If something isn't working, tell us and we'll fix it or make it right.

Payment disputes

Please email us before disputing a charge with your bank. We usually reply within 48 hours.

Film names and trademarks

Aftertone's looks have descriptive names of their own. Where our pages mention film stocks, cameras or brands (such as Kodak, Fujifilm, Ricoh, Polaroid or Ilford), it is only to describe or compare a look. Those names are trademarks of their owners. Aftertone is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by any of them.

The software itself

We work hard to make Aftertone reliable, but no software is perfect. Keep copies of your original photos; Aftertone never changes an original unless you choose to save over it. To the extent the law allows, Aftertone is provided as is, and our total liability is limited to the price you paid. This doesn't limit liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights above.

Open-source parts

Aftertone includes open-source components, listed with their licences in the app (Help ▸ About & credits). Their licences apply to those components.

Changes

If we change these terms, the new version applies to purchases made after the change. The version you bought under continues to apply to your licence.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without depriving you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
