Aftertone

Privacy policy

Last updated: 14 October 2026

Short version: your photos never leave your computer. Aftertone processes everything on your own machine, in your browser or in the desktop app. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is used to train AI.

This policy is from rapolas.studio, who makes Aftertone ("we", "us"). Questions or requests: support@tryaftertone.com.

Your photos and looks

Photos you open in Aftertone are read and processed on your computer and are never sent to us or anyone else. The looks you save, your settings and your licence are kept on your computer: in the browser's storage for the browser app, and in the app's own folder for the desktop app. You can export your looks to a file at any time (File ▸ Export looks).

The licence check

When you enter your licence key, and every few days after that, the app sends your licence key and a device name (for example "Safari on macOS" or "Aftertone for macOS") to Polar's licence service (api.polar.sh) to confirm the key is valid. Nothing else is sent: no photos, no usage data.

Buying

Purchases are handled by Polar, the reseller and merchant of record. Polar collects your name, email, billing details and payment information to process the order, charge tax and send your receipt and licence key, under Polar's privacy policy. We receive your name, email, order details and your answer to the checkout's consent question, which we use to provide your licence and support. We never see your full card details.

The website

The website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking, and keeps no record of who visits.

Emails from us

We email you about your order and, if you contact us, to reply. We don't sell or share your information with anyone for their own marketing.

How long we keep things

Order records are kept as long as the law requires for tax and accounting. Support emails are kept while they're useful for helping you, then deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell customers by email.
